5 Timeless Reads For Kids
We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite books and book series for young readers.
Our families read headlines, tweets and Instagram captions constantly, but over these recent difficult months during the COVID-19 pandemic our concentration has understandably been shaken, and reading full-page books can be a challenge. It can be especially hard for children with many distractions and sometimes it’s good to get back to the classics and open a good book. Here’s five
timeless choices:
Little Bear, by Else Holmelund Minarik &Maurice Sendak- This heartwarming and classic book series invokes a nostalgic era. Little Bear’s tales with family and friends are easy to read and the illustrations are still as beautiful as ever.
Grimm’s Fairy Tales; Hans Christian Andersen- There are many collections by both sets of authors, from classic fairy tales from "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", to “The Little Mermaid” and “ Thumbelina.” These stories have stood the test of time because they are so good
The Winnie the Pooh Series, by A.A Milne- The beautifully written and amusing stories of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends--Piglet, Owl, Tigger, and Eeyore have been cherished by children for over 90 years.
All the Famous Five books, by Enid Blyton, also her Secret Seven books. These are classic adventure and crime stories for children aged eight and above, up to the early teens.
Charlotte’s Web by E.B White- The award winning powerful story of friendship between Charlotte the spider, and Wilbur the pig. Recommended for children 8 years of age and up.
All of these books can be found at our Backyard Camp partner Indigo Books, both online and in-store - happy reading!
